Clay Hand Building

Hand Building

All of our give back activities start by identifying the specific business goals and values that each team building event will deliver upon. We also wish to address any individual behavior issues of your team. This is accomplished with a meeting between key stakeholders, or organizers, and an Odyssey Teams lead facilitator.

During Helping Hands event:

Session I – Icebreaker /Introduction: This powerful beginning sets a strong context for group participation, engagement, and application related to the specific business values and individual behaviors of your team as identified in the meeting before the event. Communication, engagement, purpose-driven work, and customer centered thinking are a few of the underpinnings for success that the Helping Hands program is about. Whether you book a live program, or purchase a DIY kit, the team building benefits are endless.

Session II – Milestone activities and ART improvement: A wareness of R eflexive T endencies (ART™) is used to pinpoint the reflexive strengths and areas for improvement that team members amass while under pressure. Participants engage in a series of brief get-out-of-your-seat challenges to determine areas requiring a more deliberate approach to mediate the teams’ results, relationships, and work process. These activities prepare team members to deliver on-time, with quality, and a deeper sense of purpose.

Session III – Achieving inspiring performances: Up until now, team members do not know what their project is. We recommend keeping Helping Hands a surprise in order to catch participants in their natural personalities. The Pre-Build Video (see video on this page) is then screened. It describes their business simulation or project. At this point, they understand the value of the Helping Hands project, the value of their time, and the value of your organizations commitment to doing something REALLY valuable. At a ratio of three team members to one hand, everyone is given the over-arching challenges to complete:

  • Construct all the prosthetic hands in the event by a certain time
  • Decorate the protective carrying case the hand goes in with imaginative creativity
  • Reiterate and demonstrate the values, virtues, and lessons derived at the start of the program
  • Take a photo of your team building in progress and one with your finished hand. The first one is for you and the second one will be printed and inserted into the protective carrying case with the finished hand. Then the whole package is donated to the recipient.

Session IV – Debriefing /Transference: At the end of the build, the Post Build Video is played (See video this page). This generates a powerful emotional response and connects the participants to what they have done, and how and WHY they have done it. The Odyssey Team Facilitator then asks them to connect these revelations with who the participant is, what they do in their job, and the purpose behind their work. Concepts such as collaboration, communication, customer centered thinking, quality, sense of purpose, etc. are discussed and galvanized in this final debrief. This is, hands down, the most powerful part of the give back activity The final debrief shifts something inside the attendees. A new paradigm is created centered around what is possible through attendees’ actions and commitments.
